Anxiety will likely affect most people at one time or another in their normal course of life. Anxiety can be as simple as periodic worry, fears, or restlessness. However, in more serious cases, anxiety can severely impair one's ability to function normally.
In more serious cases, Anxiety Disorders can develop. Many of the symptoms to be aware of include:
Persistent and exaggerated worry and tension without necessarily being provoked
Anticipating impending doom or disaster
Difficulty relaxing
Sleep difficulties
Physical problems such as headaches, chest pains or pounding heart, stomach aches or nausea, muscle tension, lightheadedness, or difficulty catching ones breath
Panic feelings
Other less common symptoms might include obsessive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, fear of leaving ones home, phobias, and symptoms associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Treatment for these disorders varies. However, the most common treatment includes medical management with medications specifically formatted for anxiety. Also, talk therapy helps to identify and treat forms of negative self dialogue that leads to worried, negative, and fearful thinking patterns. Other forms of treatment include relaxation, breathing techniques, and forms of meditation.
Anxiety Disorders are very treatable so there is little reason that someone has to suffer for long. Making good choices for treatment comes with understanding this disorder and not hesitating to seek professional help.
